Ketamine
Ketamine
Ketamine is a dissociative drug that has hallucinogenic effects. It distorts the perception of sight and sound. It can make a user feel disconnected from their body and environment. Ketamine can induce a state of sedation (feeling calm and relaxed), immobility, decreased pain, and amnesia (no memory of events while under the influence of the drug). It is abused for these dissociative sensations and hallucinogenic effects.
Ketamine is an FDA approved medical product for anesthesia. Ketamine injectable is approved for both human and veterinary use. Additionally, esketamine (the more potent S-enantiomer of ketamine) is approved for treatment-resistant depression and major depressive disorder with suicidal ideation as a nasal spray.
